Melayu UK Forum

We have now set up a forum for Melayu UK at http://forum.melayu.org.uk. This forum is NOT a replacement for the Melayu UK Yahoo Groups. Amongst the reasons for the forum are:

1. From time to time the committee members get emails from non-members on various issues. In many cases, the queries are similar apart from being asked by different people at different time. The committee members do not have the time to answer all queries. The forum allows the public to post the questions and any registered user can answer them.

Does God Really Exist?! [Unit Keluarga @ Nottingham]

20/02/2010 - 14:30
20/02/2010 - 18:00
Etc/GMT+1

Often the belief in God is ridiculed in this society such that those who believe in God are made to feel intellectually inferior to those who believe in the theory of evolution. This session will explore the rational arguments for and against the existence of God in order to establish a sound background in this matter.

Perhimpunan Keluarga 2009 & New Committee Members Line Up

28 July 2009

Perhimpunan Keluarga 2009 aka camping at Ashworth Valley Scout Camp went very well over the weekend. The camping attracted participants from various races, Muslims and non-Muslims. Once again the Malay community in the UK has shown that they do not just mixed around with Malays only. Mixing around with Malays only will prevent personal development and is likened to the Malay proverb "Seperti katak di bawah tempurung" (like a frog under the coconut shell).

Participants enjoyed the weekend with various indoor and outdoor activities and participants even lit their own campfire. Sarah Hamidi from PISANG (Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group) launched the "Link Scheme: From Al-Azhar to the World", a scheme to help Muslims in the UK learn more about their religion. Sarah can be contacted via email sarah @ pisang.org.uk.

PISANG also had a session on the "Introduction to PISANG", explaining the services offered by the organisation. At the request of participants, jinn-screening sessions were also held after the talk.

Food have been very delicious with participants going for a second round at every meal. Participants also could not resist the temptations of various delicious food on sale at the Melayu UK summer fete, organised on the Sunday.

The Perhimpunan Keluarga was also an event that mark the change of leadership of Melayu UK. The new line up of committee members are as follows:

President: Suhaib Hamidi
Vice President: Addawiah Salim
Secretary: Zurina Ali
Treasurer: Nidzamuddin Ahmad

Adviser: Hamidi Abdul Rahman

Perhimpunan Keluarga 2009

Our Perhimpunan Keluarga (aka camping) this year will be held at Ashworth Valley Campsite. The annual Perhimpunan Keluarga is a key factor in bonding the friendship amongst our members. As in the past, we are proud to inform that this year's Perhimpunan Keluarga will be also attended by many non-Malays. This proves that the resident Malay community is not an isolated community but is increasingly playing a bigger role in the British community.

Mobile clinic for screening of jinn related problems

Update: Mobile clinics will be held in conjuction with Islamic Medical Treatment courses. Please visit www.pisang.org.uk for the latest information.

Melayu UK and PISANG (Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group) plans to hold another mobile clinic for the screening and treatment of jinn-related problems. Jinn can cause some illnesses and modern medicine will not be able to cure those type of illnesses. Screening will be done using the Ruqyah Shar'iyyah methodology and we are planning to fly in Al-Hafiz Ustaz Trimizi Zainal to conduct the clinic.

PISANG is a non-profit organisation registered in the UK and has carried out many mobile clinics in Malaysia, Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Jordan, Egypt and UK. PISANG is highly dependent on donation to fund its activities and we hope to collect donations to cover the cost of organising the mobile clinic. Screening and treatment services will be provided free-of-charge. However we encourage donations to cover our cost. Please send us an email if you wish to pledge donation for the planned mobile clinic.

PISANG is also planning to organise a course on Introduction to Islamic Medical Treatment. Please contact us if you are interested in taking the course.

Eid on Wednesday

As is previous years and Allah knows until when, the Muslim community in the UK are split in deciding the start of Ramadhan and the start of Shawal. Basically there are 2 opinions:
1. the first opinion follows whatever Saudi Arabia announces
2. the second opinion follows the UK moonsighting committee and is based on astronomical calculation

Hari Raya (Eid) With Melayu UK

Updated: 4th October 2008

We are currently getting a lot of interest from non-members who want to join our "Hari Raya With Melayu UK" event. It is becoming extremely difficult for us to estimate the amount of food and presents required for the event. In order to keep the day in an orderly manner and have sufficient food and presents, we REQUEST EVERYBODY TO PRE-REGISTER. Please use the online registration form.

We will do our best to ensure that there will be sufficient food for everyone and Insha'Allah we will be able to cater for some who make last minute decision to come. Problem may arise if there are too many unregistered people appearing on the day. To be fair, those who have contributed and those who have pre-registered WILL HAVE PRIORITY on food coupons, which will be issued upon arrival. We can only guarantee the availability of food to those with food coupons.

We hope everybody can co-operate as follows:
  • We hope parents who have not made arrangement with Zurina to bring presents for their own children for distribution during prize/present giving time. We do not want any child to be left out
  • The ever increasing number of people intending to come means that we are working beyond our financial capacity. We hope you can make some financial contribution to cover the cost of the event. We would like to thank those who have made contributions in the form of food, cash, materials, gifts etc, and they do not have to make any more contribution.
  • We need to borrow another Nintendo Wii and flat screen TV to avoid any chaos on the day. Please let us know if you can help in this matter
  • We welcome anybody who want to sponsor party hats.

We also encourage everybody to wear traditional clothing on the day e.g. for men baju Melayu or batik or just put on a songkok etc. If you don't have any of those, just wear normal clothing. The most important thing is to attend the event and enjoy the day.
