How does MUSST add value to the many Malay and Malaysian organisations in the UK?
1. MUSST Bridge the Gap [between Britain and Malaysia]
Melayu UK is an organisation that works to bring Malays (or those who have Malay descent or interest) residing in Britain together. This includes:
- Malay professionals competing in the global market.
- Malays born and raised in Britain as an ethnic minority.
- Malays who have married outside of the Malay race and reside in Britain.
- Malays born in Malaysia and have settled down in Britain.
MUSST (a subsidiary of Melayu UK) is therefore able to recognise how Malays cope in the UK and how they survive and develop themselves to become appreciated and valued in both Malaysian and British society.
The Melayu UK network provides MUSST with a unique first-hand ‘grass-roots’ understanding of the British society. This allows MUSST to specialise in detecting the priority skills required to transfer from British society to Malaysian society. Furthermore, MUSST can concentrate on formulating and applying a practical skills-transfer strategy tailored for Malay students from Malaysia.
2. MUSST Unite [via discussion]
The MUSST rationale, aims and philosophy emanates from one concept; believing in the benefit of open-minded and unbiased intelligent discussion as the foundation of a better society.
The practice of intelligent discussion is a practice that all Malay organisations and students can relate to and appreciate. Therefore, using this common practice of intelligent discussion, there is no pressure on anyone to adopt a particular belief, but rather a warm opportunity to learn from each other is created.
When people of differing opinions come together for the purpose of learning from each other in a warm learning atmosphere of open-minded intelligent discussion, a greater understanding between the differing opinions can be achieved. This learning atmosphere will drive a more enlightened, pro-active and sophisticated community.
MUSST therefore provides the opportunity for all Malay organisations in the UK and Ireland to take advantage of a neutral platform under the practice of intelligent discussion.
3. MUSST Be Practical [with a clearly defined strategy]
Most of us would have dreamt of achieving skills in life which have unfortunately remained in our dreams and gradually been forgotten. One of the reasons why we don’t achieve these dreams is because we feel as though we are not equipped with the appropriate tools and guidelines required.
MUSST recognises this problem and detects that a need for experienced mentors would be beneficial in order for us to develop the skills we desire. Therefore MUSST works on a grass-roots level by compiling valuable resources and opportunities into one platform including:
- Student Liaisons: To ensure Malay students wanting to develop themselves have a competent local mentor and an easily accessible point of entrance into MUSST.
- Think Tank Sessions: Opportunities for Malay students to discuss and debate Malay and Malaysian related issues in a warm and friendly learning environment.
- MUSST Local Committees: Once a city has a few interested MUSST members and student liaisons, with the help of the current MUSST committee, a local committee can be established. The local committees can develop their own strategy of how to help others excel in their personal development using the support of MUSST committee members from other cities.
- Leadership Training Programmes: To ensure that MUSST committee members are equipped with necessary skills to drive the community forward, MUSST members are given opportunity to develop themselves and that anyone interested in benefitting from the MUSST platform can do so, once a while we may organise leadership programmes that will be tailored to either of the 3 following target groups:
- Open to MUSST committee members only
- Open to MUSST members only
- Open to all
In summary, MUSST collates those students who have managed to develop themselves via the extra-curricular activities that they participated in within British society. Thereafter, the MUSST platform facilitates the development of the MUSST committee to ensure that they can develop themselves more and also encourage others to develop themselves.
This team of expertise can act as an engine attracting others to meet with MUSST committee members and therefore beginning the process of transferring expertise to those interested in gaining them.
